The Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund has brought much needed assistance to firefighters, their families, and fire departments across the United States since 2002.  Continuing their mission of helping the fire service, the group recently facilitated the delivery of a 2 1/2' piece of steel from the World Trade Center to a new fire museum in Pennsylvania and provided monetary aid to the organization.

The Delaware Valley Fire Museum is the vision of New Hope, Pennsylvania Battalion Chief Tim Lohan, and its mission is to preserve, collect and share artifacts that tell the history of fire and EMS services in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.  Lohan and the museum's supporters hope to purchase the former Eagle Fire Company Hall in New Hope, Pennsylvania, however, the cost to purchase and renovate the building is estimated at $1.5 million.  With difficult economic times plaguing the nation, fundraising has been difficult.

Recently Brian Farrell, Founder of the Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund, approached Lohan, who is also the President of the Pennsylvania Chapter of the Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund, and offered a donation of $1,000 and the steel beam as the museum's first official artifact.  In a moving journey and ceremony on Saturday, December 18th, the section of the beam made its way from the Dix Hills Fire Department on Long Island, New York to the New Hope Eagle Fire Company in Pennsylvania, where it will stay on display during business hours until the Museum acquires its permanent building.  Lohan and Farrell hope that the donation spurs other donors and local residents to contribute to the Museum.

The Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund was founded in 2002 by Brian Farrell and his family, in memory of Brian's brother, Terry, a member of FDNY Rescue 4 and Chief of the Dix HIlls Fire Department.  Terry Farrell perished on September 11, 2001, but his family went on to make something positive out of this tragic day, establishing a non-profit organization that is providing educational and medical assistance to the families of fallen and injured firefighters and apparatus and equipment to fire departments in need.  With its headquarters in New York, the group has grown quickly since its inception with chapters in states across the country.

For the full story of the beam's origins, the FDNY firefighter who recovered it, and its journey to Pennsylvania, read this article from the Doylestown-Buckingham-New Britain Patch.
