Texas Firefighter Killed Battling Wildfire
April 18, 2011 As hundreds of fires continue to burn in Texas, firefighters are mourning the death of one of their own. Greg Simmons, 51, a volunteer with the Eastland Fire Department was with his crew Friday battling a fire near Gorman, Texas when the wind shifted, trapping Simmons and his crew. Simmons had been with Eastland for 11 years beginning his firefighting career more than 20 years ago with the Sachse Fire Department. According to officials, Simmons was not killed by burns, but by blunt force trauma, possibly being hit by a vehicle in the thick smoke. The investigation is ongoing. Simmons leaves behind a wife and two children. Vehicle, Not Smoke, Killed Sachse Firefighter: MyFoxDFW.com Author:Barbara Brooks - Fire Department Network News
