Wildfire Breaks Out in Thousand Oaks
Temperatures in Downtown Los Angeles, California soared into the record books Monday. According to the National Weather Service, an all-time record high of 113 degrees was hit as a heat wave continues to bake the area. Since Saturday, many area fire departments staged firefighters and equipment in fire-prone areas to be ready if a fire began. Monday, firefighters with the Ventura County Fire Department (VCFD) were put to the test when a brush fire sparked in Thousand Oaks near the 101 freeway and Hampshire Road. More than 100 firefighters are handling structure protection and fighting the fire that has scorched 15 to 20 acres and is now 30 percent contained, according to fire officials. Four helicopters, two from VCFD, one from the Ventura County Sheriff's Department and a Firehawk from Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACoFD) are battling the fire along with bulldozers and hand crews working to cut a line around the fire.
