Ventura County Fire Department to Dedicate New Fire Station in Simi Valley
The Ventura County Fire Department will be dedicating its newest fire station in Simi Valley – Station 43 – at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, October 19, 2011. The public is invited to attend. The new station replaces the Santa Susana Knolls station on Cypress Street that has served the east end of Simi Valley since the 1950s. The new Station 43 fronts on E. Los Angeles Avenue and features two pass-through engine bays, an office area and living quarters for six firefighters. The site also includes a separate garage building and a Training Building with a community meeting room and office. Fire Chief Bob Roper, Supervisor Peter Foy and Simi Valley Mayor Bob Huber will make brief comments during the ceremony. Tours of the station will be available and refreshments will be served. The new station will allow for more rapid response times to a wider area of the city and provide better community access and interaction. The old station was built about 60 years ago and its small size no longer meets the department's operational needs or modern code requirements. The new station offers improved facilities for both the firefighters and their equipment. The Station 43 dedication ceremony and tours are an opportunity for the public to see how Simi Valley's firefighters live while on duty. The station is located at 5874 E. Los Angeles Avenue near the intersection of Yosemite Avenue. Author:Ventura County Fire Protection Dist Press Release
