Ventura Fire units responded to a reported fire outside the front door of a first-floor residence at a two-story apartment complex on October 10, 2011.  When the first firefighters arrived, local residents had extinguished the fire with dry chemical extinguishers.  Firefighters ensured the fire was completely extinguished, checked on the status and accounted for effected residents, and removed residual smoke that had entered the unit through an open window.  No one was injured as a result of the incident.  Due to entry door damage and removal, and smoke and dry chemical residue in the living space, the apartment occupants (an adult male & female) were offered temporary housing elsewhere. Police and firefighters conducted an on scene investigation to determine the cause of the fire.  Based on initial evidence collection, investigators have ruled out an accidental cause and consider the incident circumstances to be suspicious.  The investigation is continuing.  Any one with information is urged to call the Ventura Police Department at 339-4400, or make an anonymous call to Crime Stoppers at 385-TALK or 494-TALK.
