Ventura Firefighters & Ambulance Personnel Respond to Dowtown Vehicle Blaze
Ventura, California firefighters, police and ambulance personnel were dispatched and responded to a single-vehicle accident downtown on November 22, 2011. First responders arrived to find a compact pickup truck had crashed through and inside the storefront of a bookstore at the corner of East Main St & California St. The driver and passenger were out of the vehicle when rescuers arrived. Both occupants were medically assessed for injuries. The male driver was not injured; a female passenger was transported to CMH with minor injuries. The bookstore was closed at the time of the accident. No pedestrians or building occupants were struck or injured. The fire department's Urban Search & Rescue team and City Building & Safety inspectors assessed the entire building, in which the bookstore was a part of (Ventura Inn), but found no evidence of structural damage that would have rendered the retail / residential structure uninhabitable. Damage to structure is estimated at $20,000. A damage estimate to business contents was not available at the time of the incident. Due to HIPAA we are prevented from disclosing an individual's protected health information (PHI). We may not release information regarding patient's names, DOB, address, SS# or medical status.
