Virginia Beach Offers Reward In Connection With Suspicious Fires

A reward has been offered in connection with eight suspicious fires in the Brigadoon neighborhood of Virginia Beach, Virginia. Thursday, the Virginia Chapter of the International Association of Arson Investigators (IAAI) announced they will offer up to $5,000 for the arrest or indictment of the person or persons responsible, according to a news release from the Virginia Beach Fire Department (VBFD).

The fires are considered to have been maliciously set.Seven of the eight fires began Sunday night. They were reported within about a half-hour of each other and several involved occupied homes, according to VBFD.

Most of the fires occurred in garbage or recycling cans. According to the department, the most extensive fire burned a house that is now uninhabitable.

One adult was sustained burn injuries while trying to put out one of the fires at his home.

According to the VBFD, damage is extensive with estimates still to be determined. 

The VBFD Fire Investigators continue to investigate the fires by following tips and conducting interviews.
