Virginia Firefighters Attack House Blaze Caused by Woodstove
Suffolk Fire and Rescue received a 911 call around 8:00 a.m. on January 3, 2012 in reference to a residential structure fire in the9300 block of Gates Road in Suffolk, Virginia.

The caller advised the wood heater in the home had exploded. Occupants were able to be safely evacuated.The first responding Fire unit reported that the house was fully involved along and a nearby vehicle was on fire as well.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue is working the structure fire at this time. As a result, Gates Road is currently closed at this location.

UPDATE:
The Suffolk Fire Marshal's Office advises that the fire which originated in the woodstove at the residence was determined to be accidental.

UPDATE:
Suffolk Fire and Rescue advise that the structure involved in this morning's fire was a total loss, as well as a pick-up truck that was parked in front of the home. Two adults were displaced as a result of the fire. They are being assisted by the Suffolk Chapter of the American Red Cross. There were no injuries. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
