Waimea Family of 5 Displaced Following House Fire in Kauai
A Waimea family of five was displaced on December 6, 2011 after a fire broke out in the back of their single-story home. No injuries were reported. Waimea firefighters were called to the two-bedroom home on Panako Road at 5:30p.m. With the help of the Hanapēpē fire crew, the blaze was under control within 10 minutes and fully extinguished by 6:30p.m. The fire started in the back of the home, where it was contained, causing $20,000 in damages to the structure and its contents. Kaua'i police were on scene to reroute westbound traffic on Kaumuali‘i Hwy. for roughly an hour while fire crews worked to control the blaze. The family is being assisted by the Kaua'i Red Cross.
