Weekend Fires Kept Suffolk, VIrginia Firefighters Busy
A woods fire and residential fire kept firefighters in Suffolk busy over the weekend.  Saturday night firefighters from Holland Volunteer Fire Department, Whaleyville Volunteer Fire Department, Suffolk Fire and Rescue and a brush truck from Carrsville Fire Department – in  addition to a plow from the Virginia Department of Forestry – battled a woods fire in the 6200 block of Trumpet Drive for approximately an hour and a half before bringing it under control.  The fire was reported just before 10:30 p.m. and consumed approximately 7-8 acres.  There were no structures damaged and no injuries reported.

Firefighters responded back to the scene Sunday evening to address hot spots that had flared up.

Firefighters also extinguished a residential fire in the 600 block of Pitchkettle Road Sunday morning.  The fire was reported just before 8:30 a.m.  Firefighters from Suffolk Fire and Rescue were able to contain the blaze to the kitchen and attic area.

The residence sustained approximately $10,000 damage to the structure and $5,000 in damage to the contents.  No one was injured.

The cause of both blazes are under investigation.
