A Piece of World Trade Center Comes to El Paso, Texas

A piece of steel from the World Trade Center destroyed in the September 11, 2001 terror attacks will be the center of a memorial service in El Paso on August 1, 2011.

Local first responders will welcome a 14-by-14 inch, 120-pound piece of steel from the World Trace Center on a national tour.  Volunteers with the Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund are taking the piece of steel on a two-week, 3,100 mile national tour. 

The steel, which came from an interior stairwell in Tower 2, will become part of a permanent exhibit at the San Diego Fire Museum.

The fund is named after New York firefighter Terry Farrell, who was one of 343 firefighters that perished in the Sept. 11 attacks.  The nonprofit raises money to the families of firefighters in need.El Paso is one of 12 stops the tour will make during it trek from Baltimore to San Diego. 

The memorial is scheduled for August 1, 2011 at 1:00 PM, at the El Paso Fire Memorial Park located at 314 South Leon St., corner of Leon and Overland in downtown El Paso.
