NFPA Commends Massachusetts for New Electric Vehicle License Plates

Emergency responders in Massachusetts will now have another way to easily identify electric and hybrid vehicles. Massachusetts has become the second state to unveil a new license plate for hybrids and electric vehicles, a move that aligns with the goals with the National Fire Protection Association’s (NFPA) Electric Vehicle Safety Project.
HIV Presumption Passes Unanimously in Tennessee

After nearly three years of lobbying, the Tennessee Professional Fire Fighters Association (TPFFA) scored a huge victory when its HIV presumption legislation unanimously passed the state House and Senate. Effective July, it will be Tennessee’s only statewide presumption law.

The Congressional Fire Services Institute (CFSI) and the MedicAlert Foundation recognized the innovation and leadership of three fire departments with the Excellence in Fire Service-Based EMS Award at the 24th Annual National Fire and Emergency Services Dinner on April 26th, 2012 at the Washington Hilton. The honorees were the Mesa (AZ) Fire and Medical Department, Selden (NY) Fire Department and Center Point (AL) Fire District.

Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and Fire Commissioner Salvatore Cassano regretfully announced on Apr. 16, 2012 the death of Lt. Richard A. Nappi, Engine 237, a 17-year veteran of the FDNY who suffered an apparent heart attack while battling a three-alarm fire the same day in Bushwick, Brooklyn. Lt. Nappi, who lived in Suffolk County and leaves behind a wife and two children, was 47 years old.
