Runaway California Teens Arrested for Arson

CAL FIRE/Highland City firefighters responded October 14, 2010 to a structure fire at 6987 Elmwood Drive in Highland, California. Witnesses described teenagers who entered and left the building at the time of the fire. In a joint effort between Highland City Sheriff's Deputies and CAL FIRE/San Bernardino Unit Fire Investigators, the teens were located, a case was made, and they were arrested. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Janet Napolitano visited Glen Burnie, Md., and Baltimore on Friday to participate in a groundbreaking ceremony for Anne Arundel County's new Marley Fire Station, funded in part by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), and meet with members of Baltimore's Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) team, which is supported by DHS' Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) grant program.

Hundreds of FDNY members gathered at PS/MS 498 in the Bronx on Oct. 14 for a special dedication - the Lt. Curtis Meyran and Lt. John Bellew Educational Complex. The building was named to honor two firefighters who lost their lives while battling a three-alarm fire in the Bronx on Jan. 23, 2005. The pair, along with four other firefighters, was forced to jump from a fourth-story apartment window after they were trapped in an illegally subdivided apartment.
