It was a bittersweet day on October 2, 2011 when the final class of 96 students graduated from the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Rescue Youth Program, a crime prevention program in which at-risk junior high school youths were mentored by Los Angeles County firefighters.

It is with deepest regret and sorrow that the IAFF reports the death of Captain William Caviness, a member of Greensboro, NC Local 947. Brother Caviness, 35, died suddenly today while running the Bank of America Chicago Marathon on behalf of the IAFF Foundation’s Burn Fund Fitness Team.
