At approximately 12:15 p.m. today firefighters from Kern County Fire Department, Bureau of Land Management, and the US Forest Service responded to a report of a wildland fire. The wildfire, called the West Fire, is located in Lebec and is actively burning.

The West Fire started on July 28, 2010 at 14:14 hours. The fire was human caused and started along Blackburn Canyon Road 3 miles south of Highline Road.
