The use of goats in helping to reduce and maintain fuel breaks in Kern County began several weeks ago with the introduction of 15 goats.
Mount Charleston Fire Burns Near Las Vegas

A wildfire started Thursday afternoon has charred 20 acres. According to the Bureau of Land Management, the fire was sparked by an illegal campfire on Mount Charleston, about 40 miles northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada.

Moist weather yesterday in the interior of Alaska calmed some fires. The statewide preparedness level remains at Level 2, according to the Alaska Interagency Coordination Center (AICC). Currently there are 92 active wildfires that have burned a total of 911,292 acres.

There were two new fires reported in Alaska yesterday. Windy conditions caused one of those fire, the Noatak River Fire, to grow to 100 acres threatening multiple structures and allotments, according to the Alaska Interagency Coordination Center (AICC).

As part of the Ready! Set! Go! plan crews from Santa Barbara County Fire Department and the Los Padres Hot Shots are clearing vegetation throughout Santa Barbara to reduce the threat of wildfire and to enchance evacuation and emergency vehicle access routes in the case of a wildfire.

Eagle Rock Fire Now 100% Contained

The Eagle Rock Fire, 11 miles northeast of Williams, is 100 contained at 3,420 acres. Fire managers have determined the fire was lightning caused.
