Every March since 1981, women are honored during National Women's History Month. The United States Fire Administration (USFA) wants to recognize the unselfish acts of women serving so many communities as firefighters and emergency medical technicians in both fire and emergency medical services (EMS) organizations.

MDA is the IAFF’s “Charity of Choice”, and so far more than $450 million has been raised by firefighters and their Fill-the-Boot campaign, making them the greatest contributor to MDA. To run a successful campaign, every department or local must have a coordinator, and once a year, MDA holds a boot camp for those coordinators.
