The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) announced on September 13, 2011 that it has teamed up with Emmy-award winning and best-selling author Don Hoffman and illustrator Todd Dakins to create Sparky the Fire Dog®, a picture book to be released on October 1, 2011, in celebration of the NFPA mascot’s 60th birthday.

The Florida Forest Service (formerly known as the FL Division of Forestry), in cooperation with the Hillsborough County Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department, is conducting a prescribed burn today, Tuesday, Sept. 13 at Balm Road Scrub Nature Preserve, 15299 McGrady Road in Wimauma.
