Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and Fire Commissioner Salvatore Cassano regretfully announced on Apr. 16, 2012 the death of Lt. Richard A. Nappi, Engine 237, a 17-year veteran of the FDNY who suffered an apparent heart attack while battling a three-alarm fire the same day in Bushwick, Brooklyn. Lt. Nappi, who lived in Suffolk County and leaves behind a wife and two children, was 47 years old.
Two Philadelphia Local 22 Fire Fighters Lost in the Line of Duty

The IAFF is saddened by the loss of two Philadelphia Local 22 fire fighters – Robert Neary, 60, and Daniel Sweeney, 25 – who died in the line of duty while fighting a vacant warehouse fire on April 9, 2012. Two other Local 22 fire fighters – Francis Chaney and Pat Nally – were injured in the same fire and are being treated at a local hospital.

On Sunday, March 11, 2012, 1,550 firefighters competed in the Scott Firefighter Stairclimb. The stairclimb is a timed race up the stairs at the Columbia Center in downtown Seattle, Washington in full fire gear and Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA).

It is with deepest regret and sorrow that the IAFF reports the loss a dedicated union member, affiliate leader and advocate of human relations. Lieutenant David D. Pulliam Sr., 65, a member of Richmond, VA Local 995, died Wednesday, March 7, 2012, from lung cancer.
