Global Education Campaign Launched to Warn Firefighters and First Responders of Occupational Hazards of “The Silent Killer”

Masimo (NASDAQ: MASI), the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC), the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF), and the National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) jointly announced today the launch of “The Silent Killer” educational campaign aimed at raising awareness of the duty-related dangers of carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning and reducing the known risk factors that unnecessarily kill or injure firefighters each year.
Safety Alert and Recall Issued for Blaze Fighter Glove

The Glove Corporation, a manufacturer of structural firefighting gloves and a participant in the SEI Certification Program, today notified SEI that it was discontinuing its manufacturing operations. Subsequent reports in the New York Times and other publications have confirmed that the company has ceased doing business. On January 14, 2011, The Glove Corporation initiated a voluntary recall of one of its product lines, the Blaze Fighter glove. The Glove Corporation has informed SEI that it is unable to replace or offer a refund for the gloves.

FEMA Awards City of Marietta Grant for Breathing Apparatus

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has awarded the city of Marietta a grant to buy equipment that will help firefighters breathe better when battling a fire. The $285,000 grant will be used to buy 68 new breathing apparatus.
NVFC Renews Partnership with TECGEN to Support the Fire Service

The National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) will continue to work with Ashburn Hill Corp. (AHC), maker of the patented TECGEN® fiber for personal protective apparel, to support the fire service in a variety of ways. The partnership, which was launched in 2010, focuses on the mutual goal of keeping first responders safe.

The National Volunteer Fire Council’s (NVFC) Heart-Healthy Firefighter Program is bringing its Health and Wellness Advocate Workshop to North Dakota, West Virginia, Kansas, and Louisiana this February and March. First responders who attend the free workshop will learn how to start a sound health and fitness program within their department and motivate their fellow first responders to adopt heart-healthy behaviors.
