Brush Fire Burns Four Acres in Waimea, Hawaii
Camp Kapalawai residents were put on alert when a brush fire broke out near their homes on July 10 at around 1:30 p.m. No evacuations were required and there were no injuries. Near mile marker 22, off Kaumuali'i Hwy., approximately four acres of land owned by Gay & Robinson burned. A battalion chief, ten firefighters from the Hanapēpē and Waimea stations, and four rescue specialists from the Līhu'e fire station responded to the fire. Goodfellow Bros. Inc. and Gay & Robinson water tanker operators also assisted. Kaua'i police assisted with traffic control as well. At around 2:30 p.m., the fire was deemed under control, and by 3:30 p.m. the fire was fully extinguished. With the dry season upon us, fire officials are asking residents and visitors to be cautious, according to a Kaua'i Fire Department news release.
