Operation Ranger Provides First Response Organizations in Need with Polaris Ranger 6x6 Utility Vehicles

Since 2002, the U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Company and the National Volunteer Fire Council have provided emergency first response departments in need with all-terrain utility vehicles at no cost to the department through an open, competitive application process. Since 2005, Polaris has also been involved in this partnership, and recipients have been awarded the Polaris Ranger 6x6 Utility Vehicle. Through Operation Ranger, over 450 vehicles have been awarded since the program's inception, and in 2009 the U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Company projects that they will give away between 65 and 75 Rangers.

FY 2011 SAFER Grant Application Period Begins January 30

The FY 2011 Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant application period will open on Monday, January 30, 2012 and run until Friday, February 24, 2012 at 5:00 P.M. EST. Congress has approved $742.5 million in SAFER funding to rehire and retain fire fighters, in addition to hiring additional personnel. The SAFER program has already put more than 5,000 fire fighters back to work, giving a much-needed boost to public safety in countless struggling communities.
