Operation Ranger Provides First Response Organizations in Need with Polaris Ranger 6x6 Utility Vehicles

Since 2002, the U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Company and the National Volunteer Fire Council have provided emergency first response departments in need with all-terrain utility vehicles at no cost to the department through an open, competitive application process. Since 2005, Polaris has also been involved in this partnership, and recipients have been awarded the Polaris Ranger 6x6 Utility Vehicle. Through Operation Ranger, over 450 vehicles have been awarded since the program's inception, and in 2009 the U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Company projects that they will give away between 65 and 75 Rangers.

AFG Workshop Schedules Available

The United States Fire Administration (USFA) will be holding Assistance to Firefighter Grants (AFG) workshops around the country to provide information to those interested in submitting competitive applications to the 2010 AFG program, according to a news release from the USFA. Representatives from fire departments and non affiliated EMS organizations are invited to attend the free workshops. Information will be presented on program changes, program priorities, eligibility requirements and the application process, according to the release. They will also give general assistance in writing a competitive narrative for the grant application.
