John Guthrie Memorial Freeway Dedication

California Legislature PAUL COOK Assemblyman, 65th District FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Sam Cannon March 9, 2010 (916) 319-2065 Freeway Dedication Ceremony for Fallen California Firefighter John D. Guthrie SACRAMENTO – The long-awaited freeway dedication ceremony for fallen Firefighter John D. Guthrie is set to take place on Friday March 12, 2010 in the city of Perris. The ceremony will officially designate a 5.8-mile segment of Interstate 215 as the "CDF Firefighter John D. Guthrie Memorial Highway." Flames overtook Mr. Guthrie, as well as his six-man crew, on July 8, 1959 while battling the Decker Canyon Fire near Lake Elsinore. The dedication has been a work in progress for Carlo Guthrie (widow), who has advocated patiently for remembrance of those firefighters lost in the line of duty. Heeding the call, Assemblyman Paul Cook (R-Yucca Valley) authored ACR 107 in the State Legislature, which authorized the freeway memorial. The dedication ceremony will be held at the CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire Department Administrative Headquarters, 210 West San Jacinto Ave. in Perris CA. Guest speakers will include Fire Chief John Hawkins, Carlo Guthrie, and Assemblyman Paul Cook. Assemblyman Paul Cook represents the Inland Empire, including portions of Riverside and San Bernardino Counties. # # #
