Green Waste Fire Fought By Kern County Firefighters

Kern County Fire Department (KCFD) firefighters responded to green waste piles on fire at Synagro east of Taft, California Tuesday afternoon. Crews arrived to find four piles, approximately one half acre, of shredded green waste on fire, according to a news release from KCFD.

Water and penetrating foam was used to knock down the flames. According to KCFD, other equipment was used to break up the piles and separate the unburned product while the burned product will continue to smolder and produce visible smoke.

The cause of the fire was found to be spontaneous combustion. No injuries were reported.
