Roof Collapse Injures Four Dallas Firefighters
Four firefighters with Dallas Fire-Rescue (DFR) were injured early Wednesday morning while battling a house fire in east Oak Cliff. The one-alarm fire began at 12:30 a.m. at a vacant house located in the 4000 block of Fernwood Avenue. Upon arrival, firefighters saw a small amount of fire coming from the back of the roof and began an offensive attack. "A small section of the roof collapsed from underneath one firefighter that was working on top of the house. After fortunately landing near an attack team working inside the home, he was immediately helped out of the structure and taken to Parkland Hospital with facial burns and smoke inhalation where he remains under observation while in stable condition," Jason Evans, a spokesman for DFR said in a news release. "Of the firefighters that helped him from the structure, two of them suffered minor burn injuries from the debris that fell onto them, and a third one suffered from smoke inhalation. All three stayed behind to make sure the fire was put out before ultimately deciding to go to Parkland as well. Since then, all three of them have been treated and released to go home," said Evans. Arson investigators have determined the fire was intentionally set. The investigation is on-going. Author:Barbara Brooks - Fire Department Network News
