Cape Vincent, New York

Mark B. Davis, 25, a volunteer EMT for the Cape Vincent Volunteer Fire Department, was killed in the early morning hours of January 31, 2009 as he was treating a patient. Davis and two other EMTs were called to 114 South Esseltyne Street in Cape Vincent by the girlfriend of Christopher G. Burke, 25, according to New York State Police. Davis and his colleagues were treating Burke for an undisclosed condition, when Burke became agitated and retreated to a bedroom. He emerged with a high-powered rifle, and allegedly fired two rounds, on of which struck Davis.

Burke attempted to flee, however, another EMT on scene tackled him, and Clayton Police Department Officer Robin Pearce and Alexandria Bay Officer Jerry Delosh arrested the suspect.

EMTs on-scene attempted to save Firefighter-EMT Davis' life, and resuscitation efforts continued as he was transported to Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown, New York; however, he was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Christopher Burke was arraigned yesterday on charges of 2nd degree Murder, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 4th Degree.
