Burn Institute-Inland Empire Receives Grant
Colton, California The Burn Institute-Inland Empire has received major support from the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians to expand early age fire and burn prevention education programs within the Inland Empire. The money will also help underwrite Camp Beyond the Scars, a specialized burn camp offered free of charge to burn injured children living in the Inland Empire, according to Gary Stansberry, Executive Director of the Burn Institute-Inland Empire. "We will be using the tribe's gift to fund training and certification in Juvenile Fire Setting Intervention for local firefighting personnel and mental health professionals; to implement the 'Kids Safe Program' for elementary age students and to provide fire and burn prevention materials to individuals and agencies. An important program geared towards seniors and other residents of the Inland Empire will help provide smoke detectors for homes within the area," Stansberry said. The San Manuel Band of Mission Indians will also be the presenting sponsor of the Spirit of Courage Awards Banquet on June 20th. The banquet honors life saving heroes that have saved the life of another from death by fire or serious burn injury. It will be held at the Highland Springs Resort in Cherry Valley. For tickets or information call (909) 519-1063. The Burn Institute-Inland Empire is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit agency dedicated to saving lives by reducing the incidence of deaths by fire and burn injuries and providing burn survivor support programs and community outreach free of charge.
