Safiya Songhai in an anchor and reporter for FDNNTV.com covering the stories of both the New York Fire Department, as well as other departments along the east coast.
Since joining the FDNNTV in 2009, Songhai has covered stories on the high rise simulator training facility in New York as well as various ground breaking outreach projects initiated by fire departments to improve their communities.
Prior to joining the FDNN team, Songhai has was nominated for an Emmy, covered the Crime and Justice beat in Westchester, NY, served as host and interviewer for PBS specials in Washington, DC and worked as an announcer and producer for the Maryland Lottery for WJZ-TV (CBS). In addition to reporting, Songhai has gotten the opportunity to be a contributing producer to Dateline NBC, and a contributing writer for the Washington Post.
Songhai earned her MFA in Film and Television Production from New York University, and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Howard University's School of Communications. Songhai presently serves as a lecturer at Texas A&M and is an advocate for children living in the Foster Care system.
