Loading The Sensit Gold CGI is able to alert first responders to the presence of carbon monoxide, hydrogen sulfide, oxygen and combustible LEL gases. It features a bright LCD display that provides read-outs on all gases simultaneously, and in situations where it is not convenient to look at the display an audible tick meter can be used to indicate the change in gas levels. Besides being one of only two gas detectors manufactured in the United States, this instrument is unique in that it can find and pinpoint the locations of gas leaks as well as aid firefighters in their arson investigations. Tom McCoy, a sales representative with Sensit dealer Hansen Fire and Safety, explains, "Every other monitor out there can just take a static reading. This is an active tool that not only on the front side will go in and find a leak, but on the backside of the rotary vein that is continuously bringing in oxygen and outside gases, it will take them to the potential arson spot as they are investigating what actually happened in the fire. Nothing else out there can do that." Firefighters who use the Sensit Gold CGI have found that its small size and easy to use features are ideal for working in confined spaces. The monitor helps them to identify HAZMAT materials on the scene of an incident such as industrial solvents, gasoline, jet fuel and alcohol. A bar-hole feature also helps with the detection of underground leaks. One of the most attractive features of the Sensit Gold CGI is its price tag. This instrument has the lowest cost of ownership in its class. Each unit costs $1800; however, at $100 to $150 per year, it's annual maintenance is much lower than its competitors, which can range from $200 to $1000 per year, according to Tom McCoy. The unit's lifespan ranges from 12 to 15 years. The sensors are long-lasting with the oxygen sensor needing replacement at around 30 months, and the three other sensors lasting four to six years. The Sensit Gold CGI may be purchased through authorized dealers across the United States.
