The iEvac Fire Escape Hood made by Elmridge Protection Products is designed to protect  those who are trying to escape heat, smoke, gases, and particulates.

It is also the first escape hood that has been certified to the American National Standard for Smoke Escape Devices ANSI/ISEA 110 standard.

The iEvac comes in a 1 ½ pound vacuumed sealed, puncture proof foil bag that has a shelf life of 5 ½ years. It is made to be used once to get someone safely out of a fire hazard.

"There's a catalyst in here that converts the carbon monoxide to carbon dioxide," explains Ira Gurvitch, President of Elmridge Protection Products.

iEvac includes a HEPA filter that gives extra protection against particulates including Anthrax, Smallpox and radioactive particles. It also has impregnated activated charcoal.

"That takes care of your fire combustion agents plus your ammonia, chlorine, formaldehyde, and all those different type of agents. And the entire hood, anything on here has to withstand up to 1700 degrees heat," explains Gurvitch.

The hood is one size fits all and can be worn over eyeglasses, long hair and facial hair. It requires no maintenance and can be donned easily to protect the wearers lungs, head, eyes and face.

"The concept is here that it's something fast, simple, anyone can put it on. Part of the standard, it has to be put on within 30 seconds," according to Gurvitch.

iEvac is designated as a qualified anti terrorism technology by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Office of the Safety Act and has been purchased for use by the military.

Elmridge Protections Products is now marketing the iEvac Fire Escape Hood to the firefighting community.  They feel the hood is ideal for firefighters to use on victims during rescues involving fire or hazardous materials. "They could bring this in, if there's a victim inside to put this on a victim to help them get out," explains Gurvitch.

There are three reflective strips incorporated into the clear plastic hood to make it easy for the wearer to be recognized in an emergency situation.

The iEvac Fire Escape Hood retails for $189.95 and can be purchased online.
